Title: Magnetic Nanoparticles Abstract: Our group is interested in the synthesis and properties of magnetic semiconductors. There are two classes of ferromagnetic semiconductors, EuX and CdCr2X4 (X = chalcogenide). These materials are of interest for novel next generation data storage, spin valves, magneto-resistive effects and magnetocaloric effects. The talk will focus on the synthetic challenge of preparing shape controlled nanostructures, and the properties of these materials. The approaches taken include single source precursor thermal decomposition, chemical transformation of pre-made nanostructures, as well as Atomic Layer Deposition. |
