End Date: 1/22/2015End Time: 9:00 PM

Event Description
On January 22 the Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute will host a lecture and book signing event with Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer. A print journalist, broadcaster and author, Charles Spencer’s new book Killers of the King will be published in the United States this month. An “accomplished, gruesome…and masterful account of the fate of the regicides” (Alison Weir), the book tells the shocking stories of the men who signed Charles I of England’s death warrant in 1649, changing British history forever and echoing through the young British colonies that would form the United States.

In addition to discussing the book, the direct descendant of King Charles I will also share a behind-the-scenes look at life at Althorp, one of England’s most important stately homes, where Spencer and his late sister Diana, Princess of Wales grew up.

Charles Spencer began his career as a broadcast journalist with NBC’s Today Show based in London. He travelled the world filing stories for NBC News and produced a ten-part series called The Great Houses of the World for NBC Superchannel. He also presented two documentaries for the History Channel based on his book Blenheim: Battle for Europe, a Sunday Times bestseller shortlisted for the British National Book Awards History Book of the Year. Killers of the King is his fifth book. The talk and book signing are free to the public and will take place at 7:00pm in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert Street).
