Event Description Facilitated by Jayda Pugliese
Unpacking the Language of STEM for English Language Learners is an interactive workshop presentation that will discuss practical, research-based strategies on how to address the needs of English Language learners in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology courses. When teachers embed their understandings of the language demands of STEM into their teaching of ELLs, those students are better able to learn the language of the STEM which will provide ELLs improved academic success within content-area courses.
Jayda Pugliese is a 5th Grade STEM teacher within the School District of Philadelphia. She is the recent recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award and was one of ten nationally recognized teachers for the Best in Education Award. Jayda holds a B.A. in Special Education and Elementary Education and a M.Ed in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Literacy. She currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration. Jayda Pugliese is well-know for her innovative and differentiated teaching styles as well as her integration of various technologies, such as 3D Printing. |
