In "13th," filmmaker Ava DuVernay explores the history of race and the criminal justice system in the U.S. The film focuses on mass incarceration as a pattern that followed the 13th Amendment, which made slavery unconstitutional. The film has won numerous awards and is considered to be a likely contender for an Oscar.
