“Academy Egg Drop Challenge” Maker Space

Celebrate the end of Tiny Titans by taking a crack at the “Egg Drop Challenge”! Birds and dinosaurs take care of their eggs against all odds. Do you have what it takes to protect such a fragile, thin-shelled thing? Design an apparatus that can withstand a drop from the Mezzanine of Dinosaur Hall and protect a raw egg inside. To ensure a positive experience for all guests, we ask that you work with your group to create one apparatus and sign up for a time slot on the day of your visit.

“Academy Egg Drop Challenge” Drop Zone
Drops at noon, 2, and 4 p.m.

Check out the challengers as we drop their precious eggs from high in the air. Which egg safety apparatus design will protect them the best? Sign up for your time slot in Darwin Room on Level 1, below the drop zone. Anyone can come to watch and cheer on the challengers!

Auditorium Show: Rad Reptile Relatives: Dandy Dinos and Bodacious Birds
11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The most popular reptiles are actually extinct: dinosaurs! And even though they have been gone for millions of years, their legacy lives on in their closest relatives, birds. Learn about reptiles through the ages, and meet some live animals as you explore how birds are related to reptiles.

Nest Sweet Nest

If you think modern parents have a tough job, imagine keeping a whole nest full of delicate dinosaur eggs and fragile babies safe from hungry predators! Compare casts of dinosaur nests to real bird nests, and touch a rare piece of fossilized dinosaur egg.

Fossil Forensics

Got your magnifying glass, notebook, and trench coat? Then you are ready to investigate! Examine clues and gather evidence to find out all about real fossils and the animals they represent. Compare ancient bones with modern specimens to learn how and why paleontologists know what they know about ancient life.

Cretaceous Craft

Let your inner artist out with a “roar” and make a dino-riffic creation to take home.

FossilMicroscope Cart

Dinosaur eggs are even cooler under the scope! Check out the unique structure of a dinosaur egg, and test your dinosaur knowledge at this technology-enabled Cart of Curiosity.

  “Fossil Jacket” Make and Take

The dinosaur fun doesn’t have to stop when you leave the Academy! Make and take your own dinosaur fossil jacket to unwrap at home. Choose your favorite fossil, prepare and wrap it, and practice paleontology at home.
