Event Description

Meet Botany graduate students Liz McHone and Chelsea Smith. McHone and Smith study milkweeds, a beautiful group of plants that are consumed by numerous interesting insects including Monarch butterflies!

Liz McHone works with a group of iridescent beetles, called Dogbane beetles, which are able to not only eat poisonous milkweeds but also use those toxins for their own defense against predators. Come learn about the relationships between these bugs and their host plants, and see how they are preserved in museum collections.
