On Monday, January 20, the Academy of Natural Sciences welcomes Philadelphians and beyond for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Learn more about the environment we inhabit and the community in which we live as we imagine the equitable, just world that he envisioned.

Meet the WINS

Founded over 35 years ago, the Women In Natural Sciences (WINS) program has supported hundreds of women in Philadelphia as they’ve worked to graduate and strive for careers in STEM. Meet past and current participants and learn about the wonderful work they do.

Ecology at the Academy

Meet Academy scientists and learn about the amazing research they do around Philadelphia and the Delaware River Valley. Find out more about how the science we do is used to make the world a better place.

Taking Action at Home

Work with Academy experts to find out how you can make Philadelphia a cleaner, more sustainable city. Perform experiments to learn how cities are affected by climate change and pollution, and brainstorm simple, effective ways to reduce your impact on the environment.

Enjoy an engaging film about the world-renowned scientist, Dr. Ruth Patrick. She pioneered the study of freshwater ecosystems right here at the Academy and lived to be 105 years old.

Learn more about the awesome work of the Academy, both inside the museum and out, connecting the community with the environment in which we live in a series of film shorts.
