Event Description

In the Age of Burnout

Avocado toast, real estate, and social media are just a few things millennials have “ruined” over their generational reign. For years, anyone born between 1981 and 1996 has been admonished for being inconsiderate complainers who choose to laze on phones as opposed to get jobs. In the past year, however, journalists have intervened with think pieces reframing the conversation about millennial laziness as one of malaise in an economy laid waste by baby boomers. This conversation has been extended to Gen Z, who looks toward potential economic, environmental, and political uncertainty. But what makes millennial or gen-z burnout particularly unique? Are we articulating a phenomenon that has always existed for previous generations or is there something particularly novel about this contemporary period? This conversation will put generational stresses in conversation with each other to elaborate on this age of burnout.
