Event Description
The Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design will host an advance screening of EAMES: The Architect and the Painter, narrated by James Franco, the first film about the late Charles and Bernice “Ray” Eames telling the story of their collaboration, their marriage, and the “Renaissance studio” they created in a gritty warehouse in Venice, CA. The Eames’ work touched on countless areas of design: architecture, furniture design, photography, filmmaking, painting, fine art and graphic design. EAMES: The Architect and the Painter premieres nationally Monday, December 19th at 10 PM on PBS (check WHYY.org for local listings) as part of the acclaimed American Masters. Director and filmmaker Bill Jersey will join us to discuss his documentary following the screening. EAMES: The Architect and the Painter is being presented as part of the Westphal College’s participation in DesignPhiladelphia, the citywide celebration of all things design.
