Title of talk: "The use and utility of natural experiments in population health research: insights from four studies on the built environment and health"

Speaker: Steven Cummins BSc MSc PhD, Professor of Population Health & NIHR Senior Fellow at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM, England)

Bio: Steven Cummins is a geographer (University of Gloucestershire) who trained in epidemiology (LSHTM) and public health (University of Glasgow).  He has held appointments at the MRC Social & Public Health Sciences Unit and Queen Mary University of London and is currently Professor of Population Health at The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.  He is particularly interested in the contextual and socio-environmental determinants of health (particularly diet, physical activity and psychological wellbeing); the evaluation of ‘natural’ community social and policy interventions to improve population health; the consumer consequences of food retail restructuring; and the public policy implications of geographical and other social and population health research.
