Event Description
Alexander M. Waldman, GIS manager and watershed modeler, Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

This presentation will introduce developments of StreamHiker, a watershed analysis tool developed by Jerry Mead and Alex Waldman at ANSDU.

StreamHiker can be used for evaluating environmental conditions (e.g. land use/land cover, subsurface conditions, climate) along a stream or river reach and its associated drainage area, at multiple spatial scales (e.g. reach, network). It has a wide range of possible applications. Early uses by the Academy include evaluating the accuracy of extrapolating watershed-scale water quality models to the reach scale; investigating how agricultural best management practices (BMPs) affect surface water quality (i.e. temperature) and ecological well-being (i.e. fish growth potential), and where those BMPs should be placed to optimize benefits. It is open-source and can be applied to any geographic area.
