You are invited to the Women's Studies Marriage Equality Panel Discussion!
This discussion will examine the history and triumphs of marriage equality, as well as the ongoing work to realize LGBT equality.
Panelists:
Isabelle Barker, PhD: Assistant Dean, Bryn Mawr College
This year, Dr. Barker was one of the plaintiffs in a same sex marriage case in Pennsylvania. Barker was married in Massachusetts, but when her family moved to Pennsylvania, the marriage was not recognized.
Scott Barclay, PhD: Department Head - History and Politics - Drexel University
Research: The interaction of courts with social movements and state institutions, especially in relation to same sex marriage in the United States.
Phillip Ayoub, PhD: Assistant Professor - History and Politics - Drexel University
Research: How transnational mobilization of marginalized peoples and international channels of visibility influence social and legal change across the states. The domestic conditions under which international norms governing LGBT rights are most likely to spread.
