Event Description
Rogelio Minana, head of the Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages

Title
: "Transnational Quixote: Global Studies and Modern Languages"

As we celebrate its 400th anniversary, Miguel de Cervantes’ “Don Quixote” (1605-1615) continues to be the most influential work of fiction ever published. By examining how “Don Quixote” is appropriated by Brazilian youth organizations today, Rogelio Miñana, PhD, will lay out a vision for the new Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages.

How does a classic literary masterpiece translate into contemporary community activism in Brazil? How does a Spanish-language text from 1615 travel across time, disciplines and languages? Using “Don Quixote” as a case study, Miñana will discuss how can we best impart an international education in a transnational, multilingual and transdisciplinary context.

Learn about the exciting research being done by faculty in all departments of the College of Arts and Sciences! The College of Arts and Sciences' Dean's Seminars are free and open to the Drexel community. Light refreshments will be served.
