Rogelio Minana, head of the Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages
Title: "Transnational Quixote: Global Studies and Modern Languages"
As we celebrate its 400th anniversary, Miguel de Cervantes’ “Don Quixote” (1605-1615) continues to be the most influential work of fiction ever published. By examining how “Don Quixote” is appropriated by Brazilian youth organizations today, Rogelio Miñana, PhD, will lay out a vision for the new Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages.
How does a classic literary masterpiece translate into contemporary community activism in Brazil? How does a Spanish-language text from 1615 travel across time, disciplines and languages? Using “Don Quixote” as a case study, Miñana will discuss how can we best impart an international education in a transnational, multilingual and transdisciplinary context.
