Event Description The Office of International Programs, Drexel China Collaborative, and FAIMER invite you to join us on October 23 for the Community Wellness: Rethinking the Role of the University at Home and Abroad symposium, from 8:30am-2:00pm. Registration link: https://drexel.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_esKAmSzgkcMYoyF The event is free and open to Drexel faculty, staff, and students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. At home (Philadelphia) and abroad (using China as an example), we hope to strengthen the connections between universities and their communities. What makes a difference in health and well-being and how can universities contribute to these efforts? In a highly interactive workshop for all students and faculty, the School of Public Health, School of Education, and the Drexel China Collaborative will explore this issue. Key note speakers include: · Nancy Songer, Dean, School of Education
· Ana Diez Roux, Dean, School of Public Health
· Jennifer Adams, Associate Professor, School of Education
· Longjian Liu, Associate Professor, School of Public Health
The symposium will discuss the following questions and more: · How can universities collaborate with communities to pilot programs that might improve the lives of people who live there?
· How can service learning projects improve literacy / urban design / air pollution and more?
· How can universities help design “ruthlessly affordable” tools the community can use?
· How can they influence the design of urban environments to keep us healthy?
· How can universities gather data relevant to community wellness and reveal relationships between social parameters and health? |
