Dance Lecture with Wendy Perron: Judson Dance Theater
Start Date: 10/13/2015Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 10/13/2015End Time: 9:00 PM

Event Description
With influences from Anna Halprin, Merce Cunningham, and John Cage, Judson Dance Theater ignited an explosion of experimentation that included visual artists, composers, and poets as well as dancers. Their performances questioned everything about modern dance as it existed in 1962. As Yvonne Rainer has said, "There was ground to be broken and we were standing on it." Ms. Perron will show rare photos of works by Rainer, Steve Paxton, Trisha Brown, David Gordon, Lucinda Childs, Robert Rauschenberg, Carolee Schneemann, and others, and discuss the lasting influence of this seminal collective.

Wendy Perron is author of Through the Eyes of a Dancer, and former editor in chief of Dance Magazine. A member of the Trisha Brown Company in the 1970's, she was a NYC-based dancer/choreographer for 30 years.

Free and open to the public.
