Event Description The Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages presents "Cartoons Don't Kill People — A Career of Drawing Fire for Fiery Drawings"with special guest speaker Signe Wilkinson, Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist.
Early cartooning - Back in the newsroom, Wilkinson began drawing the people she was supposed to be reporting on. She realized cartooning combined her interests in art and politics without taxing her interest in spelling. Her awards include the 1992 Pulitzer Prize (the first woman cartoonist to win the prestigious award), the 1991 Berryman Award, the 1997, 2001 and 2007 Overseas Press Club Award and the 2002 and 2008 RFK Award. Her most cherished honor was being named "the Pennsylvania state vegetable substitute" by the former speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1989. Please RSVP to Jacqueline Rios at jsr62@drexel.edu. Co-sponsored by the Department of Global Studies and Modern Languages and the College of Arts and Sciences. |
