Big Data for Small People: Using administrative data systems and machine learning for children’s environmental health research

Dr. Jeanette Stingone is an environmental epidemiologist and the Elizabeth Mascia Postdoctoral Scholar in Children’s Environmental Health in the Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  She received an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, a masters of public health from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a doctoral degree in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Supported by an NIEHS-funded career development award, Dr. Stingone conducts research that leverages big public health data and advanced statistical methods to characterize the health and developmental effects of prenatal and early-life exposure to air pollutants. Dr. Stingone also has a strong interest in environmental justice and translating and communicating research results to inform affected communities, government regulators and other impacted stakeholders.
