Event Description The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program places teams of Drexel students in communities to engage in volunteer service and experiential learning during spring break. The objectives of the ASB program are to involve students in community-based service projects – locally, domestically, and internationally – and to provide opportunities for engagement in activities that benefit the environment, the community, and those in need.
The 2014 program will run during Drexel’s spring break (March 22-30). Students interested in organizing or participating in a trip, please contact aes68@drexel.edu.
Trip Formation:
To conduct a potential trip, student organizers must complete the ASB 2014 Trip Formation Proposal form: http://drexel.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cBxrvZZRgsqLivP. The form must be submitted by Friday, October 23, 2013. Once the form is received, you will be required to meet with professional staff to review the proposal and logistics, as well as discuss next steps.
For domestic trips, the Office of Campus Activities approves these experiences.
For international trips, approval is required from the Office of Campus Activities and the Study Abroad Office. A joint meeting may be held with both offices, but if that is not able to occur, the student will begin with the Office of Campus Activities and then be introduced to the Study Abroad Office.
Students interested in organizing a trip, but who lack the history and knowledge of locations, are free to explore the resources offered by Break Away®, a national organization whose mission is to train, assist, and connect campuses and communities in promoting quality alternative break programs that inspire lifelong active citizenship. Drexel University is a member institution. Their site contains numerous resources, including a site bank that can be accessed via: Site: http://alternativebreaks2013.org/resources/sitebank_overview/
