Scientist Saturday: A Closer Look at Wetlands
Start Date: 10/20/2018Start Time: 1:00 PM
End Date: 10/20/2018End Time: 4:00 PM
Event Description

Discover current research and meet real scientists at Scientist Saturdays. See hands-on demonstrations of scientists’ exciting research and ask all the questions you want from 1 to 4 p.m.

The program welcomes guests of all ages to interact with the scientists, who are happy to converse with you about their current research. Come back for new guests each month. Free with general admission. No registration required.

On October 20, meet graduate students Johannes Krause and Lena Champlin who study wetland ecology. Krause and Champlin focus on ecosystem services of these environments by studying gas chemistry and aerial images, also called remote sensing. Learn how satellites can reveal information the human eye can't see by playing Remote Sensing Memory. Match near-infrared and aerial images with help from the experts. Wetland services are also defined by the amount of CO2 they can take out of the atmosphere and sequester. Get hands-on experience with gas fluxes by plants using a CO2 and CH4 gas analyzer.
