BEES Graduate Research Seminar: "Bird Brains, Ant Brains and Tropical Mountains: an Overview of Current Research in the O'Donnell Lab"

Abstract: I will present an overview of current research projects in the O'Donnell lab. One of our main areas of interest is the evolution of brain structure in social insects, and individual differences in brain investment within insect societies. We are exploring how species ecology, and individual's social roles, relate to the size of functionally distinct brain regions. We are also exploring army ant ecology in tropical mountain forests. New studies focus on species differences in thermal tolerance. We are studying how army ant behavior affects ant-following birds abilities to feed at army ant raids, and whether bird interactions affect their ant following behavior.
