Math Colloquium: Conservation Law Models for Traffic Flow on Networks
Start Date: 11/9/2015Start Time: 3:00 PM
End Date: 11/9/2015End Time: 4:00 PM

Event Description

Benedetto Piccoli, Rutgers University–Camden

Abstract: We revise recent approaches based on conservation laws on topological graphs to model flows on networks. We first discuss existence and well-posedness results for the scalar conservation law on general networks. The main tool is a wave-front tracking algorithm for graphs and accurate estimates of the total variation of the flow. Then we focus on vehicular traffic and supply chain to illustrate the theory, numerical results and real-world applications.
