End Date: 11/11/2015End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description

Join us on November 11th at 4PM in the AJ Drexel Picture Gallery to honor our nation's veterans. In addition to our traditional patriotic protocols in celebration of veterans, this event will include reflections and remarks from Associate Teaching Professor Robert Watts, Department of English & Philosophy at Drexel University and Lynn Clouser, Assistant Director of The Drexel Collection.

Professor Watts will speak about his experience collaborating with the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships this summer and teaching a course called War Stories: Violence and Resilience in which students explored war from the non-fiction ground-level point of view of soldiers in combat. Books from Professor Watts’ class will be raffled off along with copies of the One Book One Philadelphia selection, Cold Mountain. Ms. Clouser will introduce us to two paintings in the Drexel Collection by our founder’s father, Francis Martin Drexel: The Battle of Bunker Hill and The Death of General Montgomery. The program will include contributions from the Veterans Task Force, Army ROTC, Drexel Veterans Association, Veterans Alumni Network, and Veterans Colleague Resource Group. Finally, we will be launching our annual Military Care Package Drive and accepting donations for items to be included in our holiday shipments. If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca@drexel.edu. This event is open to the campus and public --- please encourage attendance as this tradition has become a point of pride and special occasion for us to share as a Military Friendly Campus community. The program will begin at 4pm and is followed by a “comforts of home” reception.
