Start Date: 11/1/2017Start Time: 11:00 AM
End Date: 11/1/2017End Time: 12:00 PM
Event Description
Leonard J. Buckley will present "Science and National Security" on Wednesday, November 1st at 11:00 AM in Hill Conference Room, LeBow Engineering, 240 (31st & Market Streets).

Abstract: Science impacts everything in life including the security of our nation. There are many opportunities where scientific analysis can provide an un-biased perspective for national
security. These perspectives are often used by government
sponsors in their decision-making processes. Basic science
provides the ground truth for tomorrow’s technology.

This seminar will present a brief description of IDA and
some examples of recent scientific assessments that were
performed for DoD. Examples of these areas will include nuclear science, understanding the limits of sensor systems, performance and effectiveness of non-lethal weapons, and
blast physics. In addition some thoughts on future areas of high interest to the national security community such as
genome engineering, ubiquitous sensing, and the topic of the bio-electronic interface as it impacts the warfighter will
be briefly addressed.
