Event Description The 2nd Lives and Lessons of The Underrepresented in STEM event will continue to raise awareness of some of the challenges faced by women and underrepresented minorities in the STEM field. Through panelists, the audience will hear firsthand what it is like to learn and work in a field that commonly discriminates and objectifies those who differ from the norm.
The panelists may share anecdotes, provide facts and information, express their points of view, motivate, inspire, and reveal the truth that minorities face very real problems that no individual can solve on their own. Those who can relate to the speakers will take comfort knowing they are not alone and learn new ways to discuss the issues at hand. Those who cannot relate on a personal level will listen, learn, and gain a sense of empathy and desire for change.
The conversations may be as challenging as they are constructive, but Drexel SWE hopes, and strongly believes, that all attendees will become more engaged members of the STEM community at Drexel and beyond. Attendees will leave with newfound knowledge and compassion, a greater awareness of our differences and our privileges, and a stronger voice that will advocate for change and equality.
