Violence and Fear in October 2018: Behind the Headlines
Start Date: 11/1/2018Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 11/1/2018End Time: 5:00 PM

Event Description

The last two weeks have brought an extraordinary succession of violent acts to the United States: pipe-bombs sent to public officials, the killing of two black community members in a Kentucky grocery store, the killing of 11 Jewish congregants in a synagogue in Pittsburgh. But what do we mean when we say, "extraordinary"? Are the sentiments driving the violent acts new in the U.S.? Where have they come from, and what sustains them in 2018? What can history bring to our understanding of this moment?

The Department of History of Drexel welcomes all students, staff and faculty to join a "Teach In" on the violence of the last few weeks, and share historical perspectives that may help us move forward in the face of these horrifying events.

Please RSVP so we know if our room is the right size.
