Event Description
As part of a pilot, Drexel Libraries can offer a pop-up VR experience using the HTC Vive virtual reality gear for active student clubs as listed on DragonLink. This pilot runs through the end of the calendar year as a result of a collaboration with the SORC office of Drexel Student Life. A club officer can place an official event request through their group’s Dragonlink account, or contact their Liaison Librarian. Staff or faculty interested in this technology are also welcome to get in touch with liaison librarians. Note: there is a broader effort under development to support self-initiated VR technology use within the Libraries’ learning environments. More to come on this as developments warrant.
Why VR?
- VR represents a growing trend that some are predicting will transform many facets of society. What do you think?
- There is a growing literature on the relevance of VR to education. How is VR being evaluated? Task training. Therapeutic uses. Engagement enhancement. Simulated environments. Innovativeness and creativity. Information visualization. Gamification.
- Explore the medium. What might your experience suggest for your teaching and learning? How might it be integrated into what you do? What threshold of convenience would it need to achieve?
- Explore content relevant to your subject matter expertise. Do you agree with the representation? What sorts of learning opportunities do you think hold potential? What changes might improve the potential?
