Event Description
This lecture by Steven Weitzman, PhD, University of Pennsylvania, and director of the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, will tell the story of the search for the source of King Solomon’s wealth, a "misadventure" story that spans more than five centuries and reveals unexpected insights into the Bible and the history of its interpretation.

The Judaic Studies Program and the Department of English and Philosophy of Drexel University welcome Steven Weitzman, PhD, Ella Darivoff Director of the Herbert D. Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies, and Abraham M. Ellis, professor of Hebrew and Semitic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pennsylvania, to present “Searching for King Solomon’s Mines: a Story of Biblical Wisdom and Scholarly Folly” a lecture and book-signing.

In 2008 archaeologists reported that they had found the possible source of King Solomon’s fabled wealth in copper mines in southern Jordan, but they were not the first to have claimed such a discovery.

Weitzman’s lecture will tell the story of the search for the source of Solomon’s wealth, a “misadventure” story that spans more than five centuries and reveals unexpected insights into the Bible and the history of its interpretation.

Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.  Books will be sold by the Penn Book Center. Support for this event comes from the Louis and Bessie Stein Foundation, The Milton and Miriam Handler Foundation, and the Friends of Judaic Studies. Info: Kathy.carll@drexel.edu, 215-895-6388.
