Event Description
Since the earliest years of production, ceramic technology and application have undergone continuous development and refinement, eventually achieving the numerous forms and elaborate colors found in ceramics today. Every step in the process of making a ceramic has an effect on the end result: anything from selecting the body type to changing the type of fuel used in the kiln can change the outcome. Individual cultures manipulated these techniques to create pieces specific to their regions, traditions and tastes.
This exhibition of ceramics spans the world, covering multiple continents and time periods, demonstrating the diversity of ceramic-producing cultures as well as the interrelationships between them and the wide range of outcomes a single material can achieve. The Drexel Collection contains objects originating from as many as 71 countries around the world, let the ceramics in this exhibition be your passport to the countries and cultures that produced these fascinating works.
The exhibition is on display in the Rincliffe Gallery on the third floor of Main Building at 3141 Chestnut St. from October 24th through December 18th.
The Rincliffe Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Gallery is free and open to the public. |
