Event Description
Do 'Complete Streets' Policies Decrease Cyclist Fatality Risk? G-Computation for Policy Evaluation

Steve Mooney, PhD, MS
University of Washington School of Public Health (co-sponsored with the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics)

Complete Streets policies, which encourage departments of transportation to design roads for non-motorized uses, may make roads safer for individual bicyclists while encouraging people to bicycle. During this talk, Dr. Mooney will share how G-computation, a causal inference method based on standardization, let us estimate the joint impact of Complete Streets policies on number of cyclists and number of cyclist fatalities, allowing to consider average individual cyclist fatality risk and population cyclist fatality burden separately.

Dr. Stephen Mooney is a postdoctoral fellow at the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center at the University of Washington in Seattle. His research focuses on contextual influences on physical activity and transport-related injury.
