End Date: 11/4/2019End Time: 7:00 PM

Event Description

The Business Law Society will host guest speaker Merritt A. Cole, Esquire, who will provide an introduction to Federal and state securities law and related corporate governance regulation. Mr. Cole will address the application of securities law in a variety of contexts, ranging from venture capital to executive compensation and insider trading. He will also discuss why it is important for business law attorneys in other fields to be familiar with the basic concepts of securities law, particularly attorneys who practice M&A, real estate, banking or employment law or who are commercial litigators. Mr. Cole serves as the Chair of the Securities Law Practice Group at Earp Cohn P.C. in Philadelphia. Additionally, he teaches Securities Regulation at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law in the Spring semester. He is a former Chair of the Business Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association and past Chair of the Securities Regulation Committee of the Section. He began his career with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., where he served as a Branch Chief in the Division of Market Regulation. He has an extensive background in securities and corporate law, including transactional matters, SEC reporting and compliance, corporate governance, and SEC and FINRA enforcement. Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this learning opportunity.
