Event Description
Discussing the meanings and current usage of three key terms, the conference Cultural Properties: Ownership, Stewardship and Responsibility will take place on the campus of Drexel University, Philadelphia, from the afternoon of Friday, December 12th to the afternoon of Saturday, December 13th. Approaches to the ownership and stewardship of cultural goods evidently vary between the common and civil law traditions, as they do among other socio-legal systems - including the numerous indigenous cultural groups across the world. One key purpose in organizing this conference is to identify substantial areas of commonality, and to understand better the nature of the differences. The conference is being held in association with Drexel University's new graduate program in Museum Leadership, based at the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, and is being generously co sponsored by the Art-Law Centre at the University of Geneva.
