When Pain Is Real, But Opioids Are Contraindicated: Pediatric Primary Pain Disorders in Head, Abdomen, Muscles and Joints

Learning Objectives

  • Explore how primary headaches, centrally mediated abdominal pain syndromes, and chronic musculoskeletal pain are considered to be symptoms of the same underlying pain vulnerability.
  • Describe successful interdisciplinary approaches in managing primary pain disorders in children using a rehabilitative pediatric pain approach.
  • Discuss the low importance of pharmacotherapy to effectively treat chronic pain in children.

Physicians, pediatricians, family and general practioners, and nurse practitioners
