The Financial Impact of Cancer: Results from the Detroit Research on Cancer Survivors (ROCS) Studies
Start Date: 12/4/2019Start Time: 2:30 PM
End Date: 12/4/2019End Time: 3:30 PM
Event Description
The department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Dornsife presents Theresa A. Hastert, PhD, MPP, assistant professor in the department of Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Population Studies and Disparities Research Program at Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Improved cancer detection and treatment mean more cancer patients survive for years or decades after a cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, many cancer survivors face lasting financial consequences of cancer and its treatment. In this talk, Hastert will describe some of the common financial consequences of cancer, disparities in those experiences, and their impact on health-related outcomes using data from the Detroit Research on Cancer Survivors (ROCS) studies.

Hastert’s research interests include health disparities, socioeconomic factors, health behaviors, and cancer outcomes. Her current work focuses on the financial consequences of cancer among racially and socioeconomically diverse cancer survivors. She holds a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington and a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in health policy from UCLA.
