Event Description The Drexel University Dance Program, in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design’s Department of Performing Arts, will present an exciting program by the FreshDance company entitled New Adventures, on January 31 and February 1, 2014. The performance will feature 25 dancers and the choreography of three faculty and two Drexel Dance students.
FreshDance, the freshman year dance company provides a dynamic and professional performance opportunity for the incoming class of Drexel University. Students explore their artistry through working with professional choreographers, both faculty and guest artists, as well as exceptional student choreographers.
New Adventures will feature the remounting of two student choreographed works, each highlighting multi-disciplinary talent. Drexel senior Courtney Klinger, a major interior design and a dance minor, designed the set for her piece, “Counterpoise.” As part of her design, the set will feature a hanging installation of metal tubing created by Klinger. Drexel senior Avery Sohn, a graphic design major and Dance Ensemble member, combines her talents in animation which is used to depict different letter forms. In addition, Sohn designed the fabric used to create the dancer’s costumes in her piece, “Gestalt Principle.” Faculty choreographers include Jennifer Morley, KC Chun Manning and Dr. Miriam Giguere.
FreshDance: New Adventures will be presented on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 PM in the Mandell Theater at 33rd and Chestnut Streets. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at http://www.danceboxoffice.com or by calling 215-895-ARTS.
