End Date: 2/13/2014End Time: 8:00 PM
Event Description

This new documentary film from Emmy Award-winner Noel Izon, narrated by actor Shemar Moore, tells the story of African American soldiers and British civilians who crossed a racial divide to forge an unexpected bond during World War II.

While serving in a segregated military, Black men and women do much of the U.S. Army's "heavy lifting" by day, and introduce the British population to jazz, jitterbugging and Black American culture by night.  For the first time, Black soldiers experience what it is like to be treated as equals and as Americans.

"Choc'late Soldiers from the USA" has screened at the GI Film Festival, the Washington West Film Festival and the Smithsonian Institution. With introductions by the film's co-producer Gregory Cooke and André Carrington, PhD, faculty members in the Department of English and Philosophy.

Reception to follow.
