Benefit for PEN Haiti, Including Haitian Art Auction
Start Date: 2/24/2014Start Time: 5:00 PM
End Date: 2/24/2014End Time: 6:30 PM

Event Description
The Department of English and Philosophy will host a benefit for PEN Haiti, a community center and writers house in Port au Prince, Haiti. The original PEN Haiti house was demolished in the country's 2010 earthquake and was rebuilt mainly using the director's own funds.

At the benefit, PEN Haiti fellow Deji Olukotun will read from his novel "Nigerians in Space" and talk about his work with PEN Haiti. Author and PEN Haiti Director Jean Euphele Milce will also be present. The previous director, Georges Anglades, was killed in the earthquake.

Additionally, students who participated in a Drexel University literary study tour to the PEN Haiti house will talk about their experiences. A silent auction featuring Haitian art will also take place.
