STEAM Education Workshop
Start Date: 2/16/2015Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Date: 2/16/2015End Time: 4:00 PM

Event Description
Academic and industry leaders alike have called for graduates entering the workforce to be creative, innovative, and able to work collaboratively. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics) is a growing national movement in response to this call, arguing for a broader approach to learning and research that emphasizes the creativity, prototyping, and iteration common to both the Arts & Design and the STEM fields. Interest in STEAM is growing rapidly, including the formation of the Congressional STEAM Caucus, a bipartisan group advocating for an integrated approach to education.

The Drexel ExCITe Center, focusing on creative technologies for human expression, employs the STEAM framework to develop best practices for multidisciplinary research and pedagogy, incorporating the latest technology and innovations for learning. The Center will be hosting a STEAM workshop on Monday, February 16th, 2015, featuring a keynote presentation by Dr. Gaël McGill, Director of Molecular Visualization at the Center for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics (Harvard Medical School), co-founder and CEO of Digizyme, Inc., and co-author with E.O. Wilson of the acclaimed Life on Earth interactive textbook (Apple iBook) [http://eowilsonfoundation.org/e-o-wilson-s-life-on-earth/]. The program will also highlight novel education efforts in the region integrating STEM with the Arts & Design, incorporating small group discussions, and hands-on demonstrations of STEAM programs in action.

The workshop is open to the entire Drexel community and select external education partners. For more information, the program agenda, and to register online, please visit: http://drexel.edu/excite/news/events/2015/February/STEAMworkshop/
