The Judaic Studies program and the Department of English and Philosophy present a lecture and poetry-reading by Shahar Bram, PhD, Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature, University of Haifa, Israel, and visiting research professor of Judaic studies, Drexel University. Bram will acquaint us with Tuvia Ruebner, one of Israel’s most accomplished poets, and winner of the Israel Prize and the Prime Minister's Prize.
Ruebner has been writing Hebrew poetry for more than 60 years. Bram will present Ruebner's elegies of loss, beauty, landscape and home, including some of Bram and Katz's translations from a bilingual edition, soon to be released. ("Late Beauty" by Tuvia Ruebner, translated from the Hebrew by Lisa Katz and Shahar Bram, to be published in March 2015.)
Bram has published three scholarly books, including "The Ambassadors of Death" (Sussex), on the poetry of Tuvia Ruebner. Bram writes in both Hebrew and English, authoring four books of poetry, a science fiction novel and a novella.
