Event Description
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, hosted by Drexel Engineering, will once again offer an afternoon of engaging hands on activities for young women in grades 6-12 as a way to expose these girls to the joys of engineering. Lessons will be run primarily by Drexel students, many of whom are in CIVC 101, a civic engagement class for Freshmen. The day will begin with a keynote speaker and will be followed by approximately 20 small group lessons and hands on activities. Lessons and activities will range from materials science engineering (properties of sunblock), to electrical engineering (lemon batteries), to environmental engineering (water filtration). This year additional sessions are being offered specifically for parents. Parents will now have the option to learn alongside their students or attend one of the parent focused sessions as well. This year the event will welcome 175 girls representing approximately 60 different schools in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
