National Anthropology Day
Start Date: 2/19/2015
End Date: 2/19/2015

Event Description
The American Anthropological Association is celebrating anthropology and anthropologists across the world through the declaration of National Anthropology Day.

Last year Drexel University announced the creation of a new Department of Anthropology. National Anthropology Day is a way to both celebrate the new department and the role of anthropology in our local communities.

Anthropologists are action-oriented researchers, social scientific innovators, and creative thinkers who contribute to every sector of society. Help us celebrate what anthropology is and what it can achieve by hosting an event in your community, on your campus or in your workplace.

As part of National Anthropology Day, the new Department of Anthropology at Drexel is announcing new research foci and curriculum for the Anthropology program.  The Department will now emphasize community organization, digital culture, and the anthropology of health and medicine.

Anthropologists will be involved all across the globe in sharing their work with their communities. Events on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., will inspire the public about the significant role that anthropology plays for us all. Activities on campuses nationwide will build enthusiasm and awareness for current and future anthropologists.  The Department of Anthropology at Drexel will share in this effort by gathering with students interested in anthropology and discussing ways that anthropologists can be more involved in the local community.

The Department of Anthropology at Drexel University is housed in the PSA building on 33rd street and Powelton Avenue.  The Department currently offers a BA in Anthropology as well as a minor in anthropology.  The faculty are in the process of developing a new BA/MA program in Anthropology with a focus on Community Organization and Engagement.
