Gilman Scholarship Information Session

Event Description

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies or credit-bearing, career-oriented study abroad opportunities. With staff from the Fellowships, Study Abroad, and Financial Aid Offices, this info session will familiarize you with the award, application process, and best practices for constructing a competitive application.

 

To be eligible, you must be:

·         a U.S. citizen undergraduate in good academic standing,

·         receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application and during the study abroad program/internship,

·         applying or accepted to a study abroad program/internship eligible for credit at Drexel, and

·         studying/interning abroad for at least four weeks in one country (any country except for Cuba or countries listed in the Department of State’s current Travel Warning list.

What are the benefits of the award?

Gilman Scholars receive up to $5,000 and are also eligible to receive a Critical Need Language Award, for a total award of $8,000 if studying one of the following languages while abroad in a country in which the language is predominantly spoken: Arabic, Chinese, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese, Turkic, Persian, Indic, Korea, Russian and Swahili. Recipients must use the award to defray eligible study or intern abroad costs, such as tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and international airfare.
