Smart Water Models: Research at the Interface of Environmental Health and Engineering Sciences

Event Description
The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health welcomes Mark Weir, PhD, Assistant Professor of Environmental Health at Temple University.
 
Dr. Weir is an Environmental Engineer with over 12 years of research and consulting experience. After specializing in water treatment and distribution engineering, Dr. Weir attended Drexel University for his Ph.D. and developed his research expertise under the mentorship of Dr. Charles N. Haas. He expanded on his research experience as a visiting research associate mentored at Michigan State University. His current research is focused on: advanced infectious disease risk modeling, mechanisms of microbial persistence and the effects of complex chemical contaminants on microbial health. Dr. Weir is also developing infectious disease and waterborne disease risk models for developing nations and encampments for displaced people. His international experience includes drinking water reuse research and engineering in Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada and the UK.
