Rising South and Sinking North: The Challenges Ahead with Sir Richard Jolly

Event Description

Richard Jolly will explore how the contours of global development have been changing in terms of human indicators as well as in economic and political influence. What does this mean for the future? He will also share his thoughts for what this might mean for the North, the United Nations (UN) and for global governance.
 
Professor Sir Richard Jolly is a development economist with the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, where he was Director in the 1970s. After this, he was Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF overseeing country programmes and for 5 years in UNDP responsible for the Human Development Report. From 2000-10, he was co-director of the UN Intellectual History Project at the Graduate School of CUNY and senior author of the final volume, UN Ideas That Changed The World.
