Deadly Dinosaurs

Everybody loves a toothy T. rex! But what about the other dinosaurs that ate meat? Learn about some of the carnivorous dinosaurs that once roamed the earth and check out their fearsome teeth and claws.

Predator and Prey

Carnivores have one key characteristic in common: they eat other animals. Learn about the essential adaptations that help them hunt successfully, as well as some of the unique ways that their prey AVOIDS becoming dinner.

Tarantulas: Alive and Up Close

Tarantulas have a reputation that precedes them—terrifying, fast, hairy, scary—the biggest, baddest, and most fearsome of all spiders. In the Academy’s newest hands-on exhibit, you will come face-to-face with a stunning array of live tarantulas … fangs and all. Get the facts on why tarantulas are so hairy as you venture through an air current that simulates the sensitivities of a hairy spider. Explore a tarantula burrow and get your picture taken with these live eight-legged beasts! Special ticket required.

Make and take a craft featuring everyone’s favorite carnivores: the big cats!

Owl Pellet Dissection: Microscope Cart

Use cutting-edge technology to explore the remains of an Academy owl’s dinner. What delicious dish did these famous predators consume? Find out as an educator dissects a fresh owl pellet right before your eyes.
