Drexel University, a military-friendly school, celebrates Women’s Herstory Month and pays homage to female veterans. A film screening of Top Secret Rosies: The Female Computers of WWII will be followed by a discussion reflecting on the role of women in the military and computing. Panelists will include the film director Leann Erikson.
In 1942 soon after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, a secret military program was launched to recruit female mathematicians who would become human computers for the U.S. military. Top Secret Rosies : The Female Computers of WWII shares a story of the women and technology that helped win a war and usher in the modern computer age. |
