CCM Speaker Series - Cycling in Philadelphia: Linking Rites of Passage and Rights to the City
Start Date: 2/11/2020Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Date: 2/11/2020End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description
Within the practice of cycling there are rites of passage that cyclists experience through the progression and personal involvement of the activity, both general to cycling and specific to cycling in Philadelphia. As time passes, these experiences become imbedded in the process of cycling and manifest as tactics and strategies used as a blueprint of how to ride in the city. Gregory Lang, doctoral candidate in Communication, Culture and Media, will discuss how it is through these experiences that cyclists have developed social rituals to claim their right to the city.
