Event Description

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards (up to $8000) to U.S. undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. This info session will provide an overview of the award, application process, and best practices for constructing a competitive application.

With staff from the Fellowships, Study Abroad, and Financial Aid Offices.

Deadline for Summer, Fall, and Full Academic Year (16-17) programs: March 1, 2016

The Gilman Scholarship aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, students in STEM fields, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Federal Pell Grant recipients at the time of application or during the study abroad term,
  • Applying to or have been accepted into a study abroad program/internship eligible for credit at Drexel, 
  • Studying or interning abroad for at least four weeks in one country, 
  • Studying or interning abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the US Department of State's current Travel Warning list.

In addition, applicants are encouraged to choose non-traditional study and intern destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
