Coffee & Convos offers students and public health professionals an opportunity to connect and network. Professionals will share information about their organization and experiences to help students explore work environments, industries, and public health career paths over coffee.
About the Speakers
Carol S. Fullerton, PhD, research professor, Department of Psychiatry, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and Scientific Director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, has widely published in the areas of post-traumatic stress disorder and the behavioral and psychological effects of disasters, war, terrorism, family violence, child neglect, bereavement and suicide. She has over 250 publications and is editor of 6 books. She has extensive experience in epidemiological studies of trauma and in developing and disseminating educational materials to assist communities, families and individuals exposed to trauma events. Fullerton’s contribution to research and consultation to disaster populations was recognized by the awarding of the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
Holly Herberman Mash, PhD, is a research assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University. She received her BA in Psychology from Kenyon College, and an MA in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. Mash completed her MS and PhD in Health Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus on psychophysiological sequelae of traumatic stress. She has worked in residential, inpatient, and psychiatric emergency room settings, and has a background in psychological assessment. Mash has performed assessments of survivors of human-made disasters, such as motor vehicle and oil refinery accidents, rescue workers following the crash of Flight 427, individuals considering genetic testing for BRCA1/2, and mothers experiencing postpartum depression. Her research interests include factors predisposing individuals to PTSD and complicated grief, risk and protective factors for suicidal behaviors, psychosocial factors and health, comorbidity of psychiatric diagnoses following trauma, and psychopathology assessment.
