Sociology Film Series Presents: "Crossing Mexico's Other Border"
Start Date: 2/5/2019Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Date: 2/5/2019End Time: 7:00 PM
Event Description

The Department of Sociology invites all sociology students and friends of sociology to attend the third and final installment of our Migration and Displacement film series: "Crossing Mexico's Other Border" (2013), a documentary from Vice Media.

People tend to assume that the immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border are all Mexican. The reality is that a large percentage of them come from Central America, and their journey north is grueling.

To get to the U.S., they first have to pass through Mexico, an ordeal that often ends up being even more difficult than getting into the United States. When traveling from Central America to the United States through Mexico, immigrants are forced to battle drug cartels, corrupt police officers, and human traffickers, all before they even come close to the U.S. border. This documentary will take us through this experience, and show the stories of people making this extraordinary trek.

Join us at the Mitchell Auditorium and enjoy pizza, a movie and good discussion.
