Event Description
The millennial generation has been denounced as both the most apathetic and selfish generation. Those in economically disadvantaged communities are stereotyped as unwilling or unable to create change. But are these groups capable of more than we give them credit for?
This quarter, students from Drexel University joined community members from a West Philadelphia nonprofit, LIFT, in a course named “Talkin’ the Walk: Promoting Social Justice through Public Speaking and Civic Dialogue,” taught by Danielle Greenwell, professor of communication, and co-facilitated by Gina Gendusa, program manager at LIFT. Working together, these two groups explored what it means to create change and how to inspire others to start and grow movements. As they developed their own voices, they also discovered how to motivate those in their own communities to change the world around them.
Join us for a community forum, which will explore how to inspire the young and those who lack political power to stand up and make a difference. Reception will take place at 2PM, followed by presentations at 3PM. |
